Pet Microchip

What is a Pet Microchip?

A pet microchip is a radio-frequency identification implant that works as identification for your pet in case they get lost or stolen. It comes in a syringe and gets injected under the loose skin between the shoulder blades.

The process for implantation is very similar to administering a vaccine to your pet. Your pet does not have to be anesthetized to have the microchip implanted although some people choose to get it done at the same time their pet is spayed or neutered.

Pet Microchip

Veterinary hospitals, shelters, and animal control facilities all have scanners that they use to detect pet microchips. Each microchip has its own number and that number is what will be used to find your information so you can be reunited with your pet. Even if your pet has a collar with identification tags, a microchip can be beneficial as writing on tags can fade, or collars can be lost when a pet goes missing.
